Prepare for a Periodic Vehicle Inspection
Provide the vehicle identification, current inspection records, and any known defects when scheduling. Trucks and trailers need to be identified separately. Describe the operation so the applicable inspection scope can be discussed; a shop inspection is not the same activity as a roadside enforcement inspection or a carrier compliance audit.
An inspection records the condition at the time of examination. It does not guarantee compliance for the following year or remove the need for maintenance and response to later defects. Ask how findings, required repairs, and the inspection documentation will be handled before pickup.
- VIN and unit identification for each vehicle
- Existing inspection paperwork and due dates
- Known defects and repair authorization contact
